Community News...
At the Palmerston Sports Club we strongly believe in our community responsibility, giving back to the very community that has helped to make the club successful.
This commitment to the community is aligned to areas that we feel represents the core values and general well-being of the community at large, values such as sports, health, education, children and community prosperity.
Our strategic approach to good corporate citizenship is primarily on key principles to address specific needs and achieve specific goals within our community.
Our key principles are :
* To foster development of sports;
* To involve the club in the promotion and fundraising efforts of our
community groups;
* To strategically align ourselves with organisations who represent and
aspire to provide for the general well-being of the community;
* To work together with the community groups to achieve worthwhile
benefits for those who need it most;
* To be responsive to the needs of the community by fostering need-
based community activities and opportunities;
* To ensure tht the clubs' commercial aspirations are cohesive with the
interests of the community and tht the clubs' growth will benefit the
Community as a whole.
In 2008 through the implementation of our key principals we have seen the community benefit in the amount of $545,319 through cash and in-kind contributions of the Palmerston Sports Club.
Highlights of 2008 include :
Schools * The Clubs' commitment to the health, education of our children was
a significant initiative where through the sponsorship of fresh fruit and
vegetables to school canteens, children at Woodroffe Primary School
Woodroffe Childcare Centre and at the Palmerston High Schools'
Clontarf Foundation have all benefited from this undertaking;
Charities * Through an allocation of $1.00 from every new or renewed
membership the club is actively supporting the work of the Cancer
Council NT and Prostate Cancer Research through the EJ Whitten
Foundation;
* Whilst the 2008 Christmas Appeal saw an unprecedented commitment
from our members with over one hundred gifts donated, allowing the
Club to also provide assistance to the RSPCA and the St. Vincent de
Paul Society.
Community
* Our relationship with the Rotary Club of Litchfield/Palmerston
prospered and grew in 2008 translating to community benefit
through the funding commitments of $18,550 raised;
